How does AccessMyLan work with networks using Public IP Addressing? |
Public Addressing
When an AccessMyLan account is setup and the agent installed, users will automatically be able to access all of their network if the network uses a standard private IP address range.
Standard private address ranges:
172.16.x.x
192.168.x.x
10.x.x.x
If the network uses any other network range, i.e. a public address range, initially users will only be able to access the agent host server. The administrator must add a “static route” to the AccessMyLan adminstration site for every other server which users need to access.
Example:
Company XYZ uses the IP address range 200.x.x.x
The administrator has installed his Agent software on a file and print server with address 200.3.1.1. Users also need to be able to access the mailserver (200.3.1.5) and a database server (200.3.1.10).
The administrator needs to add static routes for the 2 servers, 200.3.1.5 and 200.3.1.10.
Instructions for the administrator to follow to add static routes:
-
Login to the AccessMyLan administration website.
-
Click on Network.
-
Click on Routes.
-
Click on the “Edit Static Routes” button.
-
Enter servers using IP address or hostname. (see fig.1 below)
-
(If using IP address always leave the Subnet Mask field at default of “255.255.255.255”)
-
When all servers required have been entered click on “Apply Changes”.
-
The administrator is notified that the agent needs to be restarted to apply the changes. An agent restart will momentarily disconnect users who are currently logged in.
